Vigilante Nox Boyet won’t rest until he brings down the man who has destroyed his beloved New York City and now threatens the people he loves. But once he’s taken prisoner by the monster behind the carnage, Nox needs help.

Cade Creel has come a long way from his days as a high-priced rent boy, but he never expected to join the Vigilante on a high-stakes quest, never mind fall in love with him. Now it’s time to step up.

Separated and desperate, Nox and Cade have their work cut out for them. With the help of new friends and old enemies, they must identify the man who has turned New York City into a dystopian nightmare and get the hell out before a raid by the Feds turns the city into a warzone. But first they must find their way back to each other.

Book Review

Betrayal, deceit, lies, and machinations are at the heart of this third installment in Tere Michaels’s ‘The Vigilante’ series. At the end of the previous volume, Nox has been shot and whisked away by an unknown person, or persons, while Cade, LJ, and Rachel come face-to-face with Alec, who turns out to be an undercover FBI agent. When Alec wants to send all three to Chicago as material witnesses, they escape and now have to figure out where Nox is, how to get him back, and get the answers they’re all looking for.

Much to Nox’s shock, it turns out his father faked his own death all those years ago, and Carson Boyet is behind everything that has happened. Yes, I know—BIG spoiler—however, all the ins and outs, the machinations, and the chess pieces being moved around the board, often simultaneously and in shadow, had me completely glued to the pages. There is much to learn about everything that happened, not just all those years ago, but all the years since. And, I’m not saying anything more.

“The only things keeping him going for so long were his anger and Sam. For a brief moment, he had imagined his life having more….

Now? Now he’d push aside his grief and be exactly who he was meant to be.

He was the Vigilante, and people were going to pay.” ~ Nox

I can honestly say that the conclusion was action-packed, exciting, and revenge was had… which left me feeling pretty happy! I wasn’t surprised by the decisions of each of the various members of Nox’s “posse” as to where they were going to go, i.e., remain in New York City or head somewhere else, but I was happy with who remained together.

I anticipated that this was going to be the final book in the series, and perhaps it is, but the author did a bit of a tease leading me to believe that there’ll be more of the vigilante in one form or another. I will certainly be looking forward to that!
