Book Blurb

Falling in love is just the beginning...

Samuel Hutchinson has lived his whole life in Rosemont, Rhode Island. And as far as he’s concerned, his future is fixed: complete his legal training, marry a respectable woman, and settle down to raise a family.

But Sam never counted on meeting Nathaniel Tanner.

Clever, urbane, and dazzling, Nate has been banished to Rosemont by a father determined to remove him from the rising political tension in Boston. The last thing Nate expects to find in the sleepy Rhode Island town is a man who’s not only interested in Nate’s radical ideas, but who interests Nate in return.

In every conceivable way.

Over books and conversation, their friendship deepens. But when Nate dares to confess his true feelings, Sam faces a stark choice—reject his friend and continue to live a lie, or rebel against everything he’s been taught and embrace his heart’s desire…

Book Review

Sam Hutchinson lives a steady but predictable life as a law clerk toward the end of the eighteenth century, just before the American revolutionary war. That is until Nathanial Turner comes into his life. Nate is unlike anyone he has ever known. Sam is fascinated with him. He acknowledges his physical attraction but Sam decides that he will be able to ignore it and, instead, be friends.

Nate isn’t expecting to find anything or anyone of interest in the small town to which he is banished because his father is worried about the company he has been keeping. One of his father’s friends agrees to take Nate on in his law office and Nate reluctantly agrees. When Nate arrives, he is pleasantly surprised to find that he will be working with Sam, a handsome young man to whom Nate is instantly attracted. Nate carefully watches Sam for any signs of mutual interest. He and Sam become great friends, spending hours reading and sharing thoughts on the numerous books Nate has at his disposal. As they grow closer, Nate grows bolder. One day, he decides to read Sam a sensual poem about the love between two men. Instead of the reaction Nate was hoping for, Sam becomes irate and leaves. Nate is bereft; he will miss their times together. Even more concerning, will Sam tell their employer?

This is the prequel to the ‘Outlawed’ series, in which Sam and Nate are introduced and fall in love. Thank you, Sally, for what is a great introduction to a new series.
