Mackenzie Irving just wants to get home for Christmas, to visit his sister…and his brother-in-law's handsome cousin. But his stop at home to grab his things is interrupted by a vision from his past.

When IA agent Elton Grant found out that his hot one-nighter was involved in one of his investigations, it created complications, to say the least. But when his life actually was in danger, and he needed protection, he knew Mac was the right officer for the job. He knew him intimately, both through the investigation...and his own personal experience.

This is turning out to be a seriously exciting Christmas…in more ways than one…

Book Review

“A seriously exciting Christmas” sounds like a great description for a holiday-themed ‘Melting Ice’ action/adventure, and since it is July and too hot right now for me to consider going outside, reading about ice and snow is just what I need. In the best ‘Melting Ice’ tradition, Elton and Mac are not friends (to put it carefully), there is a serious threat to Elton’s life and Mac is the only cop who can keep him safe, and they end up retreating to an isolated cabin, hoping to be able to stay alive until the cavalry makes it. Add the fact that they have history, share crackling sexual attraction, and are about to have a major snowstorm, meaning they’ll be at the cabin longer than planned – and voilà, you have the ingredients for a perfect installment of this thrilling series.

Mac has lost his parents just over a year ago, and all he wants is to drive to his sister’s and spend Christmas with her and her boyfriend. Then the a**hole officer from Internal Affairs shows up and needs his help – the same man who dropped him after a scorching one-night stand, ignored Mac and their encounter altogether, then proceeded to bust Mac’s (admittedly dirty) partner. And even though Mac hates the situation, he is too good a cop and too nice a man to ignore Elton’s plea for help.

Elton is pretty desperate with the mob after him and knowing that several officers in Mac’s organization are corrupt. Elton is working with the FBI and has become a crucial witness in need of protection – and Mac is his first and only choice to keep him safe. He really did not know who Mac was when they met at a bar, and had to run the investigation by the book, including hauling Mac in when he was ready. Of course Mac got cleared, but he has never forgiven Elton and Elton hates that. He wants Mac as much as when they first met and being cooped up in a cabin with him is going to be hell.

If you like mysteries with sizzling sexual tension, more than one hot physical encounter, and a few twists and turns, if secluded cabins in the middle of a snow storm are your thing, and if you’re looking for an entertaining read with a good balance between suspense and romance of the macho kind, then you will probably like this novella.
