Book Blurb

Jason Thorpe was content living a quiet life in New Orleans. He and his best friend Ode opened their cozy curios shop in the French Quarter, and he was making some new, albeit interesting, friends….

Then Jason met Varic Maedoc, the prince of the vampyrs, and his life changed forever.

Named the prince’s consort, Jason quickly became the most important subject in the vampyr realm, the man who holds the wolf of Maedoc’s heart—a position that comes with certain obligations and no small amount of influence. Theirs is a partnership of love and a lifetime commitment, but that bond is about to be tested when Varic must return to court and Jason accompanies him.

The king’s court in Malta is unlike anything Jason could have imagined. Amidst the luxury and decadence of the palace is an air of danger and intrigue he is unprepared for, further complicated by new friends and allies who may not be what they seem. To stand beside and protect Varic, Jason must use every weapon in his arsenal to uncover a plot to usurp the king and reveal the identities of those who would see Jason dead before accepting him as their consort.

His single greatest asset is the love of his prince, but even that may not be enough to save Jason’s life.

Book Review

After properly inhaling this book, I am now left with red, swollen eyes, a serious case of love for Jason, Tiago, Nerilla, and Zev, with a lot of adoration thrown in there for Varic, his mom, and Hadrian, plus a strong desire to bang on the author’s front door and demand there be a book three. Don’t worry, Mary, I haven’t resorted to stalking anyone. Yet.

I truly believed that this second installment in the ‘House of Maedoc’ series couldn’t possibly be as incredible as the first but I was so wrong. I knew I would love it and I knew it would be amazing but I really didn’t think the author could top the first book. She topped it (topped it hard!) and then blew everything away with this tale of love, lust, betrayal, deceit, joy, laughter, steamy sex, manipulation, intrigue, murder, and a whole lot of sheer hotness in men.

I loved that the author picked this story up exactly from where it ended after ‘His Consort’ as there was such familiarity there, not to mention that Jason and Varic are still new to their relationship and thus I got the joy of them fumbling through more than one misunderstanding. I love that Jason doesn’t let Varic get away with anything and insists that they be equal. He’s always stressing the need for balance between the two of them and it has a way of enlightening that one-thousand-year-old vampyr.

Varic and Jason return to Malta and the royal court where it becomes obvious fairly quickly that someone wants Jason dead. Luckily for Jason, some of his vampyr juju helps prevents that from happening, but mostly it’s just his quick thinking, fast reflexes, and military training. The court is filled with plenty of beautiful, yet mostly unimportant people who live there, yet don’t contribute anything except to be beautiful. The king has a proliferation of courtesans and concubines which it is nice to see by the end of the book he’s seen the error of his ways… well, in a few things at least.

‘His Prince’ is chock-full of action and adventure, along with suspense and a whole lot of violence, albeit not gratuitous. The love story is enthralling and some of the friends Jason makes there made me sigh. The author had me crying more than once but since I think I needed it, she’s forgiven. Regardless, I’m not going into too much detail as this book needs to be read. Trust me. You won’t regret a moment of the time spent. Get tissues and a drink… you’ll need them.
